Ceramics as a Favorite Activity
July 2014 – For many participants in Chautauqua Adult Day Care Center’s Taft Center program, a favorite activity is making ceramics. Participants get to choose their very own projects and when finished are able to take home. The Taft Center is very fortunate to have their own kiln which allows them to pursue a ceramics project from start to finish. The process of building a ceramic piece is very involved. Greenware is purchased and then the participants clean the green ware. The next step is to fire the greenware in the kiln and paint the project. As a final step after painting, the project piece is then fired for a final time. The ending result is a beautiful piece of ceramic artwork the participants can take home.
